What Causes Fluctuation In Blood Sugar Levels While Having Dengue Fever?

during Sept. 1-9, 2016, I suffered from DENGUE FEVER and the same was treated from a reputed hospital in Kolkata(India). Unfortunately now when the blood glucose tests are done, the values are coming high like a diabetic patient! On 03/10/16 the Glucometer reading 252 PP, on 04/10/2016 it read 254! So after a gap of almost 2 weeks I again tested the blood sugar, this way by laboratory lab test and the results are even more worrying! FBS 150mg/dl and PPS 323mg/dl. Last tests were done in Feb-14 when FBS was 103 and PPS was 158. What happened suddenly? CAN DENGUE FEVER TRIGGER DIABETES? If yes, how much time it may take to return the sugar level to the normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Dengue fever never triggers diabetes or any other disease. Increased levels of sugar may be a confidential incident. But I would like to say your recent FBS (fasting blood sugar) and pp2bs (postprandial 2hour blood sugar) are above level.

Don't take sweet or direct sugar contain food. Take green leafy vegetables. Try to reduce weight. Do half an hour of regular exercise. This will again reduce your sugar and back to normal. Lifestyle modifications are the ultimate way to tackle diabetes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nirav Nimavat, General & Family Physician
