What Causes Fluctuations In The Blood Platelet Levels?

My platelets have regularly been on the low range fluctuating between 45000 to 98000. Two days back I underwent several tests where my platelets count was 80000 and my bilirubin showed 1.82. The doctor said I need not be concerned about bilirubin or platelets and that I should live a normal diet.

your platelets are much lower than the normal count and the bilirubin is higher than the normal. The reason here seems to be a liver disease probably hepatitis due to a virus. Get a detailed liver function test including titres for hepatitis B and C.
Also get a blood profile test to see if any other blood components are abnormal.
In your case probably the hepatitis is contributing to the low platelet levels.
treatment of the hepatitis will result in a normal platelet count.
Do not delay the tests.
