What Causes Fluid In Thigh In Diabetic?

my bofriend has been haveing paon in the left thigh for a while and yeasterdayhe went to the doctor and they said he might have fluid in the left thigh,and hes also a diabetic.So what could be the cause.Friday the are gonna do blood work and some test,but for now what do u think that we can do for pain at home.
