What Causes Fluid Retention In Lungs Post Liver Resection Surgery?

my husband had liver resection, after embolization, to remove 60% of his right liver with a large tumour on it. Surgeon felt it went well and he got it all. However 2 days later they just did a chest xray and he has fluid in his lungs. The surgeon is away but a resident sees him daily and ordered the chest xray. They gave husband Lasix for this. Wondering how serious this is and what is going on. Nurse said its probably a fluid shift issue and may resort to a albumin transfusion. Is Albumin transfusion safe?

Hi,

Yes, post liver resection and surgeries, it's quite common to have fluid in lungs. Both albumin and lasix can be used to decrease fluid in lungs.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
