Legs and feet swell so greatly knee cannot be bent to fullest extent, my feel swell where shoes do not fit and my toes become like hammer toes. Today s BP was highest know to me @ 144/118. It was usually in low 100s/70-80. Im a 70 yo white female, 5 6 (down from 5;9 ) Weight recently increased 5# in one week. Now @ 180, incr 10-12 lbs in most recent 4-6 months. Drink good amount of liquids, no alcohol, mostly water. Eat primarily healthy. Thank you.
Thank you for your question of retention of the water in the legs. This is oedema of the legs or peripheral oedema. This an indication of heart, liver or kidney problems. This can be caused by high blood pressure. High blood pressure cause cardiomegally enlargement of the heart. This makes the heart not to push the blood well thus making a lot of accumulation in the legs and lungs. The hihg blood pressure also damages the kidneys thus causing retention of the fluid in the body. Confirm the size of your heart by doing chest X ray, Kidney function by doing EUCs and make sure your blood pressure is under 120/90mmhg. To remove the water-retention take laxix.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mutuma Geoffrey Zambezi
