What Causes Flushed Face, Fatigue And Dry Cough Post Exposure To Strep Throat?

My daughter was exposed to strep throat a week and a half ago and started developing a sore throat about 4 days ago. I took her to urgent care Sunday where they did a Strep A test - final result negative. She now has a flushed red shiny appearance to her face (mostly her cheeks), is complaining of some tiredness and her only other symptom is a dry cough.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query flushed face, fatigue and dry cough post exposure to strep throat is because of persistence of infection. When we take antibiotics for sore throat it destroy the normal flora bacteria normally living in our body which makes body further susceptible for infection and infection occur due to weakened immune system. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may prescribe stronger antibiotics azithromycin and anti-inflammatory for longer duration. For now do betadine gargles 2-3 times a day. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Use mist humidifiers in room. Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist for acid reflux .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
