Dear doctor, my cousin is in critical condition in ICU. She is a healthy 37 years old mother of 3. Yesterday, her water bag broke plus she was bleeding. In the delivery ward, for no apparent reason, she started foaming in her mouth. Doc had to do emergency c-section to save her baby girl. We were told my cousin s heart stopped beating for 20 minutes!!! They managed to revive her and get her heart and lungs stabilize again. But she is still unconscious and her eyeballs keep rolling around. We are very worried about her. Doctor, what happened? We really couldn t understand. What are her chances of waking up?
It is most likely that your cousin suffered a seizure, the cause being unknown. I would recommend a MRI scan of the head immediately. Depending on the time her heart stopped working, we can access the damage.
The heart delivers blood to all parts of the body, including the brain. If at all it stopped working, there was insufficient amount of blood and oxygen being delivered to the brain during that period which can result in damage to the brain tissue.
So please request her doctor for an MRI, or the interpretation of an MRI (which I am assuming should have already been conducted).
Hoping and praying for her rapid and complete recovery.
Best wishes.
