What Causes Food Allergy Causing Angioedema On Upper Lip?
My daughter who is six has a swollen top lip for the past six months. She had a number of blood tests done & an allergy test. We were told she has angeoidema. She is allergic to wheat & dust mites. She is on an antihistamine 5ml twice a day & while her lip size has reduced it has not totally gone. Her bed etc is fully covered in anti dust mite protection etc. & she is on a wheat free diet for the past two months. She has had herpes virus in the past. Is the cause perhaps nota food allergy?
Swollen lip along with a history of being ruled out with allergic reaction to dust mites and wheat.. The symptoms seems to be pointing towards Angioedema only and not due to Herpes as if it would be Herpes then along with swelling there should be clusters of small fluid filled blisters over the lips also present.. Therefore it is allergic Angioedema only. You should continue with Benadryl as advised and also do cool compresses over lips.. You can also discuss about Immunotherapy with an Allergist and if possible he can get it instilled and your daughter can get relieved of the symptoms gradually..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
