What Causes Foot Blisters After A Hip Replacement Surgery?

My mother is 82 years old and just had hip replacement surgery. She is in rehab, and has several large blisters form on the top of her right foot, the same leg of the surgery. Some have healed, and then come back bigger. Any ideas about why? Oh and she has mild diabetes (diabetes II) and it's controlled with pills.
