long standing diabetes can cause joint pains in feet esp ankle .if your grandmother has ankle swelling it may be charcots joint .knee joint can be due to osteoarthritis most commonly .muscle strengthening exercises and joint physiotherapy and sugar control can help . there are surgical options for advanced cases .you need to an orthopaedician regarding that .
