What Causes Foul Smell During Discharge?

I am 21 years old and i just had a baby 3 months ago and i have now got my first period since she was born..well other than the 6 week drain after she was born.. but i noticed it is really foul smelling and it was foul smelling after she was born as well. When my water broke there was makonium and when i told my doctors about the foul smell they noticed my white blood count was high so they gave me antibiotics but never truly found where the infection was coming from... is this foul smell possibly still from giving birth? Or do you think i may have an infection?
