What Causes Foul Smell In The Nose After A Rhinoplasty And Septoplasty?

I had rhinoplasty as well as septoplasty and polyps removed 5 months ago. My nose was fractured at the bridge and set. The cartilage on the inside of one nostril has collapsed as well as I have a foul smell if I wiggle my nose. I had a deviated septum as well as trouble breathing thus the surgery. To date I can breath laboured through one nostril and very little through the other. Biggest concern is the foul smell. Kinda worried.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The foul smell may be caused by congestion or infection. You had a reconstructive nose surgery so you may be prone to infection and congestion. Also damaged mucosal lining may need more time to regenerate.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
