What Causes Foul Smell In The Nose After A Surgery?
I am 56 years old and had nasal surgery a couple years ago for polyps - and another surgery for the same 8 months ago and developed a foul smell. - the surgeon gave me antibiotics for a couple weeks and it did not go away - on a recent follow up visit, he could see no infection and pretty much wrote me off with a shrug. The smell is still very bad - at times like a death smell and I cannot see my retirement years spent like this. Just need a plan of attack / appeal - I just don t know where to turn. Thank you, Wayne

What Causes Foul Smell In The Nose After A Surgery?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. If your doctor has ruled out an infection, it is possible that the smell is psychosomatic, or due to atrophic rhinitis. Consult him about the same. If it doesnt help, you could try seeking help from a therapist once your doctor eliminates all other causes for a foul smell from the nose. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
