What Causes Foul Smelling Vaginal Discharge After Mirena Insertion?

I am scheduled to see my gynaecologist next week for a 2 month follow up after insertion of Mirena. Two weeks ago I went on holiday. Haven t been able to see a doctor about this yet. Foul vaginal odour like decaying meat, constant strange discharge ranging from yellowish to brownish. Sometimes stringy. Abdominal swelling. Feeling unwell. Any ideas as to what this could be? Am scared to have sex with my husband because of it. I am 35 yo sexually active woman.

Hello,

Foul smelling vaginal discharge can be due to infection. I suggest you to get culture of the vaginal discharge to find out the causative organism and appropriate antimicrobial for treatment of infection.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
