What Causes Frequent Bowel Movement In The Elderly?

I am having a terrible time with my bowels and have had to run to the bathroom several times within the past hour. I am 81 years old and have had constipation for most of my life. I feel like something is wrong with my stomach and worry about cancer. I do have a regular appointment with my doctor in about 5 days but now wonder if I should wait that long or even If I could wait that long.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to health care magic....

Don't directly jump over malignancy...

First of all work up done with stool culture and USG abdomen for preliminary work up.....

If culture shows infection than treated accordingly....

HIV, hyperthyroid and other endocrine disorder has to be ruled out by taking detail history and accordingly investigation....

If still cause not clear than colonoscopy like higher investigation done along with biopsy taken and sent for histopathology examination...

According to cause further treatment can be given

Consult gastroenterologist for examination and more work up....

Take care
