Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Frequent Bowel Movements With Abdominal Bloating?
I am 65 and for the past week, my bowel movements are significantly different than they ve been my adult life. Normal for me are bowel movements that don t smell, there s nothing to wipe and I have no gas. For the past week, I ve had multiple bowel movements one after the other, there s wiping required, and considerable gas on and off throughout the day, causing discomfort until I can pass the gas. What may be causing this?
Is the stools loose, contains mucus or blood? Any fever or nausea? This might suggest a gastroenteritis or dyspepsia. If there is no fever, and stool is not mucoid, bloody, try taking an antacid like Pantoprazole for 5-7 days. Avoid taking spicy and fried items. Cut down caffeinated items. Drink enough fluids to prevent any dehydration. If symptoms are not getting down in 3 days, kindly see your doctor, as this might be a gastroenteritis needing antibiotic treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
