What Causes Frequent Choking On Saliva And Blocked Throat?

I have been choking on small amounts of saliva and my throat closes up, I tilt my head upside down almost to clear the passage way. I just Swallowed a dissolvable pill and the powder seems to be stuck in the side of my throat like there is a shelf on the right side of my throat. I choked at first and my throat closed so I couldn t breath, tilted my head upside down so I could breath. What is causing this as it seems to be happening more frequently?

Hello,

Blocked throat and choking saliva occurs mainly due to dehydration, dry mouth, allergies, neurological problems, heavy alcohol intake, ill fitting dentures, acid reflux, sleep related abnormal swallowing. You should take enough water, juice, soups. Stay well hydrated. Avoid alcohol intake and addictions if any. You can take antacids and PPIs if you have history of acid reflux. Take vitamin E rich food or supplements for better lubrication.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT, get swab and sputum tests done, you may require to do few blood and imaging tests too. It can be indicative of some respiratory problem. You will be treated accordingly with antibiotics and antivirals. Get treated at the earliest. Since its happening frequently, do not neglect, neglect will lead to worsening of the symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
