What Causes Frequent Dizziness When Diagnosed With Colon Cancer?

Hi my name is Lisa, my uncle who is 70 and has high blood pressure. He takes medicine for this. Anyway, he had a colonoscopy back in April and a mass was found he had left side of colon removed which mass was found to be cancerous, but they said they got it all with surgery. He has episodes where he gets dizzy and was wondering what should I do. He is stubborn and I don t think I can convince him to go to the dr.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Dizziness can be due to conditions affecting the ear canal (eg BPPV, Meniere's disease and vestibular neuronitis).

These can be assessed by his GP. BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) is treated by a maneuver called Epley maneuver.

Meniere can be treated with a low salt diet and a diuretic. Vestibular neuronitis is often associated with a recent viral infection.

Other causes would be :low blood pressure (sometimes meds push it too low), change in pulse, not using enough fluids, low blood count.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
