What Causes Frequent Dizzy Spells And Pain On Head?

Hello, my wife has been suffering from dizzy spells and been complaining about pains in the back of head on either side. It seems a bit swollen. She s had an echo test and although she has low blood pressure the consultant said he ruled out any heart or blood causes. She has recently had an MRI scan of her head and we will be told the results on Monday. Any ideas what might be the problem? Thank you, Anil.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your wife having spells of dizziness, pain on both side at the back of head which is swollen also, no cardiac issues as declared by Cardiologist, MRI done but reports awaited.
The commonest causes I can think about after reading the history are as follows:
Cervical muscle spasm causing stiff neck and resultant reduced blood supply to the brain via vertebral arteries.
Cerebellar problems, tumors or so.
Inner ear structure problems with semicircular canals.
This can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Clinical evaluation by an ENT Surgeon for examination and investigations of the affected area that is causing dizziness.Report of MRI of hte brain may help. If it is normal then investigations to be directed for cervical spondilitis and mastoiditis.
Once the cause is found the treatment can be directed well as per the cause found.
Symptomatic treatment to be started for relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
