What Causes Frequent Headaches?

Hello Sir

My wife is suffering from regular headache from some time now. She has this Headache problem from past 3 years. Earlier 1 doctor has diagnosed and said she has a Migraine problem.

From past 2-3 months the headache problem has increased. Earlier it was somewhere around twice in a month she used to get headache for 1-2 days and now it is like weekly she is complaining about the same.

At present she is taking the Dolo 650 tablet (once or twice) a day when headache comes.

So just wanted to get a quick opinion on whether it is now the time to see Neurologist, or should we can continue to take this medicine whenever the pain comes.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. A lot of females suffer from headache. In some females refractive errors in eyes are the cause for headache. So I would advise you to take her to a ophthalmologist to rule out any ophthalmic cause for her symptoms. Migraine is a chronic throbbing type of headache that occurs in temples and in episodes. With progression of time duration between episodes reduces progressively. She is having severe headache since last 3 years and the severity has increased in last 2 months so I'd advise you to consult a neuropsychiatrist for her treatment.

Dolo 650 is not working so in such cases drugs like Naproxen Domperidone combination can be used for relief of pain. For regular treatment medicines like Amitriptyline, Nortriptyline etc can be used. These medicine if used regularly help to reduce the severity of headache. Medicines like Propranolol, Atenolol etc are found to be very useful in preventing the episodes of headache. In more severe cases drugs like Sumatriptan can be used for acute relief of symptoms. Please consult a psychiatrist for proper evaluation of her symptoms and for prescription of these drugs.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
