What Causes Frequent Heart Palpitations And Chest Discomfort?

I have been having palpitations every hr for the last 1 week. My blood results show my cholesterol ratio as 3.6, requirement is to be less than 4. I have some discomfort in the middle of the lower chest area and upper back on the right side lasting just few minutes now and then.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Recurrent heart palpitations, chest discomfort can occur due to panic attacks with anxiety disorder. Your cholesterol ratio is abnormal but not severe enough to cause such symptoms so no need to worry about that. As these symptoms are occurring in episodes and are recurrent so anxiety is most likely possibility. Please visit a psychiatrist for evaluation of these symptoms.

Medicines like SSRIs especially Sertraline, Fluoxetine, Escitalopram etc help to reduce the anxiety when taken regularly. Low doses benzodiazepines like Clonazepam, Lorazepam etc can help in reducing these severe symptoms. Please visit a psychiatrist for prescription of these medicines.

Thanks, Hope this helps you.

Take care
