What Causes Frequent Heartburn Despite Taking Prilosec?

I suffer with frequent heartburn that s treated with over the counter Prilosec. Three days ago I swallowed a raw carrot that had been cut on the diagonal. I was able to pass it the following day, but I still have pain from it. Will it take longer to heal because of my frequent heartburn or should I make an appointment with my doctor?
