Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What causes frequent leg cramps. Some are quite severe. I drink plenty of fluids and i do walk at least a mile a day and I haven t been eating any differently from before when I didn t have them. Most of them occur in the middle of the night and wakes me up from my sleep.
It is better to get the following investigations done like sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, TSH, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D levels.
Dehydration /Electrolyte imbalances , Thyroid disorders, Vitamin Deficiencies, chronic smoking can all cause leg cramps. So better to identify the cause and then treat.
In the meantime you can take a tablet of Evion - LC at night for a week. It is vitamin E and levocarnitine combination.
