Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve been having frequent nosebleeds, only my left nostril, went to urgent care a week ago and my dr. advised to use saline spray, and coat my inside nostrils with a little vasoline. I was fine for a couple of days. Today, I ve had three nosebleeds, which I am able to stop within minutes, but I m worried that too much saline spray is too much moisture? I do have high blood pressure and have had lots of stress lately and the weather is dry, low humidity and windy. I m just concerned that I would wake up with a bloody nose at 4 a.m. and have two more bloody noses later in the morning. I appreciate an answer. Thank you so much.
Nosebleeds commonly affects one nostril. Weather conditions trigger nosebleeds as they affect the nasal membrane that dries out, cracks & then bleeds. Avoid blowing your nose hard and keep yourself well hydrated with water and fluids. Keep a room humidifier for more comfort & to prevent nosebleeds. Since you have nose bleeding problem avoid taking decongestants and antihistamines.
Stay away from pollutants and nose irritants. Do not smoke, do not take alcohol. You are suggested to take blood pressure medications & control hypertension. Get examined by an ENT to detect underlying medical condition that can cause such symptoms like nasal polyp, deviated nasal septum, allergies, infections (cold), sinusitis, immune thrombocytopenia, etc. Your treatment will depend on the pathology diagnosed & the severity of your symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
