What Causes Frequent Sneezing And Uncontrollable Hiccups?

Ok. My daughter has had episodes of uncontrollable loud hiccup burps (she sucks air in and makes a goose like sound). Lately she has begun to sneeze repeatedly. Very loudly and forcefully. She has been evaluated for ulcer but all results. Negative. Fearing anxiety or concussion side effects after researching Internet. Help

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, she needs to have endoscopy of upper GI tract and CT abdomen and chest to rules out any signs of hiatal hernia. Any other cause or diaphragmatic irritation should be ruled out.

Meanwhile, antacids like omeprazole before meals as well as motility agents like domperidone can be given. If hiccups persist she may need muscle relaxants like baclofen in severe cases.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
