What Causes Frequent Thirst And Urination Along With Weight Loss?
Is the A1C test available over the counter? I believe my wife is exhibiting several symptoms: frequent thirst, frequent urination, rapid weight loss over the past few months, low energy levels. She is 76 and of Native American descent. She won t make an appointment with her doctor as she thinks the wellness physicals are a total waste of time.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
In fact these symptoms with weight loss are commonly caused by diabetes mellitus (high sugar) though not exclusively. HbAc may not be available over the counter however you can easily get a spot sugar test either on fasting or 2 hours after meal. If the value is more than 126 or 200 mg/dl, respectively, this probably indicates diabetes milites for which you can then see a doctor for proper plan ahead.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Rahman
