What Causes Frequent Tonsil Stones?

Hi! I've been getting tonsil stones for a while. I started using mouth wash twice a day and it has helped decrease how often they pop up. But my tonsils seem to be permanently swollen and my left side is worse. Above my tonsil, there is a physical hole. You can look inside it. If I wanted to (which I don't) but I could actually stick a toothpick in the hole. My left ear hurts and the left side of my nose is plugged as well. I haven't been able to breathe fully for quite some time. I actually don't remember what if feels like to be able to breathe clearly. :( I want to go to an ENT but I don't have insurance so as of right now I am just dealing with it but it seems to be getting worse...

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain it seems that you have a case of cryptic tonsillitis and the hole seems to be a deep crypt..
Tonsil stones are formed due to calcification of debris and dust that gets accumulated into the tonsil crypts and are a potent cause for recurring tonsillitis..
Pain in ear can be due to ear infection that can be secondary to throat infection as throat and ear are connected by Eustachian tube..
Plugging or clogging of nose seems to be due to sinus infection or sinusitis..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and also advise you get throat swab culture and PNS view x ray along with otoscopic examination of ear done..
He can do manual removal of tonsil stones and advise gargling with 1:! solution of hydrogen peroxide and water..
Warm saline gargles and always gargling after meals can help..
You can also be given antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkillers, decongestants oral as well as nasal and steam inhalations and saline nasal irrigation for relieving nasal congestion and sinus infection..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
