What Causes Frequent Urination In Spite Of Taking Metronidazole For Bacterial Vaginosis?
Hi, I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis and have been on metronidazole for 5.5 days. I am having frequent, urgent urination, and there is bladder pain at the end of urinating. It feels as though my bladder never quite empties, too. It had gotten slightly better and I just I have another day and a half of the antibiotic, but it's so uncomfortable tonight that I cannot sleep. I did take a Benadryl before bed because my allergies have been bad...Could it be the Benadryl, the metronidazole, or something else?? Any suggestions for how to alleviate the discomfort tonight would be much appreciated. Thanks so much for your time!

You could also have lower urinary tract infection along with bacterial vaginosis. These symptoms should not be related to taking metronidazole or benedryl. However it has occured despite taking metronidazole, means metronidazole might not be alone able to treat such infection. Urinary tract infection is very common in females & can cause frequent urination, lower abdominal pain & burning sensation during or after urination. It can also give feeling of unemptiness of bladder & urge to urinate again. You are advised a urine examination & urine culture. Presence of RBCs, pus cells, bacteria in urine would confirm infection. Then antibiotics can be given according to the culture report.
