What Causes Frequent Urination Inspite Of Taking Birth Control Pills?

Hi, I had protected sex about a week ago. I am on nuvaring, and this is my second month. I have been on 3 different types of birth control for a year, so I'm not new to birth control. We used a condom, and the condom did not break and there was no leakage, now, I have been having very frequent urination. I have been drinking a ton of water, but I am still very worried that I could be pregnant.

Hello,,

Nuvaring if used properly is 97% effective. Nuvaring should be put on the first day of the menstrual period. If you went wrong then you can be pregnant. If you do not get your periods, you should be concerned & report immediately to your treating OBGYN. Get pregnancy tests & get USG done. Get clinically assessed to confirm pregnancy. A pregnant uterus may increase pressure on bladder & cause frequent urination. If you are pregnant the Nuvaring needs to be removed. It may cause birth defects.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
