What Causes Frequent Urination While Taking Depo-Provera Shots?

I ve been having very frequent urination lately. For a little background, I am a 24 year old female that has a history of kidney issues (hospitalized as a small child with pyelonephritis and grade 3 reflux) and I have been diagnosed in the past by a urologist with having a smaller and more overactive bladder with frequent urination. However, it seems to have increased more and more throughout time. Two years ago I had a UTI so bad that I had abdominal pain and felt the urge to go every few seconds. Ever since then it has been more frequent. Now, it has gotten even worse within the past few months. I will go as much as five times a day when I have not even drank anything that day yet, and every time I go it is only a very small amount. I do not consume very many liquids a day at all, so that is even more boggling to me. Sometimes I also feel like I may be having small leaks of urine drip out on their own into my underwear. I started the depo provera shot in January, so I am wondering if that may have made my frequent urination problem get worse. Either way I will be going to my doctor about this soon but I would like to get an idea for what may be happening. Thank you.

Hi,

Depo provera by itself doesn't cause UTI or increased frequency of urination. Since you have a history of pylonephritis, it means, you are prone to UTI and therefore, smaller and overactive bladder may be the cause.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
