What Causes Frequently Occurring Severe Itching In Body?

My doctor just changed my thyroid medicine about 2 months ago....I was taking 200 s and now am taking 175 s....I seem to have developed this horrible itching all over my body that comes and goes...and was wondering if this change could be the problem? I haven t changed shampoos, laundry detergent, or anything like that. The 200 s were white I think and the 175 s are turquoise....could I be allergic to the dye? some parts of my skin are hot feeling like I ve been sunburned......I did call my thyroid doctor but they said that they didn t think that was the problem....and now i m not sure who to go see.....an allergist?

Hello,

I read and understood query.

I wish to ask a few questions. Did itching start the day you changed your medication ? If not, its highly unlikely it is associated. Is it associated with any skin lesions ? is the itching more at night or day ?

I do think what you have is either allergy, reason of which is difficult to ascertain without a detailed history, or scabies. You can take antihistamines like cetrizine for symptomatic relief. Apply a light moisturizer after bath, and single application of scabicidal drug like permethrin all over the body should relieve the itch.

Get tested for diabetes, renal function test and liver function test to rule out systemic internal causes of itching.

Hope it was helpful.
