What Causes Gagging And Vomiting After Choking Up On Food?

My 86 yr old mother ate a Jr bacon cheeseburger and got chocked a little on a piece of lettuce. She was able to cough it back up, but is now concerned because she keeps gagging and throwing up and her stomach is getting sore. We all had the same thing and nobody else has any symptoms. Concerned because she has a bad hiatle hernia. Would taking pepto bismal help at all or what would you recommend?

Hello,

So all the symptoms described by you can be due to hiatus hernia. She will require prokinetic drugs like metoclopramide which will increase her stomach motility and she won't throw up again.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
