What Causes Gastric Pain Below The Rib Cage On The Left Side?

I am an eighty year old man who has been experiencing gastric pains in the left side just below the rib cage. This has been going on for some three or four weeks now. Six days ago the pain got so bad that I went to see a medical practitioner and since I have diverticulosis she is treating me for diverticulitis and has prescribed two antibiotics. I am still experiencing severe pain when I retire in the evening. I am supposed to go back to see her again tomorrow but my wife wants me to wait till Monday when I can get an appointment with my doctor. I have lost about 15 pounds and have been on a bland diet. I experience pain not long after I eat anything so I don’t eat very much! Is it possible that I have an ulcer I have been drinking 5 or 6 ounces of gin over the course of an evening for the last 40 years that is not when taking the antibiotics.

I understand your concern
I think your pain may be due to the pancreatitis, any pathology in spleen and recurrent diverticulitis.
I would suggest to consult the gastroenterologist and undergo USG scan/CT scan of the abdomen, blood tests like serum amylase, CBC, ESR.
Specific treatment will depend on the cause.
Meanwhile take rest, eat light diet, tramadol to relieve pain
Drink plenty of water, avoid stress and physical exertion
