What Causes Green Colored Stool In A Child?

Hi. My baby had reflux so severe that the milk came through her nostrils. The doctor put her on Nexium for 3months. After we started using it the reflux was much better but after a while her stools turned green. The 3months prescription are done now for a week now but her stools hasn t returned to a normal colour yet. Can it still be the effect of the Nexium? She is almost 5months old now.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The green stool is not related to the use of Nexium. Green stool in kids usually not a cause for concern. Diet, such as eating leafy greens, often causes green poop. Otherwise, it may be linked to diarrhea or bacterial infections. I suggest to do a stool test for further evaluation and proper treatment.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
