What Causes Green Coloured Drainage From The Nose Of A Child?

My grand children ages 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 both have coughs, runny nose, running eyes. The mucus started off being clear but now it s a little greenish. We thought it was allergies because a few of us have extreme trouble with allergies. Could it be an infection, and should they go see a Dr?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, Welcome to Ask a doctor services. I have read your query.

Since your grand children are suffering from acute respiratory tract infection with running nose & mucus is greenish indicative of bacterial infection.

You are suggested to get the children clinically examined by a pediatrician.

Let them get assessed if the infection is severe then they may may need antibiotics. Neglect sometimes results into complications like chronic cough & pneumonia.

Hope I have answered your query, take care.
