What Causes Green Discharge From Ear Of A Child?

8 1/2 year old boy has bright (neon) green stuff in his ear that won t go away for good. He has had ear infections before, but he doesn t have any pain or a fever, only the green gunk. I would appreciate any help to get rid of this stuff for good. Thanks.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain green discharge from the ear with a previous history of ear infection is a clear indication of recurrence of ear infection and the discharge is infectious fluid known as Pus..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do an Otoscopic examination to confirm the cause..
In case if there is infection in ear he can advise you to take oral antibiotics like Augmentin, anti-inflammatory painkillers, decongestants and steroids..
Antibbiotic and steroid ear drops can be advised.
Manual drainage of fluid from ear can be done..
He should also prevent excess water exposure to ear like swimming as it can exaggerate infection..
Avoid picking of ear as well as popping of ears..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
