What Causes Green Mucus Stools In An Infant Along With Bad Odour?

Hi doctor My baby girl is 6 months old. She has been passing loose, mucusy, smelly, seedy, greenish and yellow stools from 10 days. Her pediac has prescribed z and d. However, I don t see any improvement in the situation. Can I give z and do along with bifilac or should I see her pediac again? I see her have difficulties to sleep and also her thirst has increased with decreased appetite. Please advise.

Hi,

Green mucus stools in infants can be caused by several factors, including viral or bacterial infection, food intolerances or allergies, antibiotic use, or an imbalance of gut bacteria. It is important to follow up with your baby's pediatrician if you do not see any improvement after taking the prescribed medication.

Adding bipolar may be helpful in restoring gut health and promoting healthy digestion, but it is best to consult with your pediatrician before adding any new supplements to your baby's diet. The increased thirst and decreased appetite could be signs of dehydration, which can occur with frequent loose stools. It is important to monitor your baby's fluid intake and speak with her pediatrician if you have concerns.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
