What Causes Green Phlegm While Suffering From Sore Throat And Fever?
Hello, 4 days ago I developed a mild sore throat on one side, the next day it turned into a cold with a fever of 101, and coughing up yellow phlegm. The fever is gone but still have chest congestion, and now coughing up small amounts of green phlegm. I can t taste my food. My sinuses are congested but getting better, no discharge from my nose other than normal cold nose blowing. Should I be concerned about the green phlegm? My email is: YYYY@YYYY
Green phlegm or mucus is a sign of body fighting an infection, in your case a sinusitis. I would not worry about it much as long as there is no fever and breathlessness. As you have no fever and your sinuses are also clearing, the green mucus will also get cleared in a few days. I would recommend water vapor inhalation for faster clearing of mucus and sinusitis. Thabk you.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. Green phlegm is most likely due to bacterial infection psuedomonas. Antibiotic therapy will be required. I would suggest broad spectrum antibiotics like Co-amoxiclav in such case. This is a prescription drug given in dosage of 625 mg twice daily for 5 to7 days. Nasal decongestants sprays like xylometazoline(otrivin)also will be needed. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
