What Causes Greenish Brown Color Stools?

My daughter who is 20 has not been able to finish a meal for over a week now, her bowel movements are a greenish brown color. Dr. had xrays and ultrasound done yesterday, both came back negative. Also had stool samples ( 7 different viles) results are not back yet. Could you please give us some information on what this could be. Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Greenish brown stool indicates bacterial infection.
- Entero-colitis can increase the gastro-colic reflex
- This in turn can cause urgency to go for passing motion
- Once the stool report is available, a course of an appropriate antibiotic and Metronidazole can help her a lot
- Probiotics and multivitamins can help a lot
- To use only boiled for 20 minutes and cooled water to drink
- Avoid outside food
- Also, identify the foods, beverages and factors like stress and anxiety that instigate or enhance the symptoms and avoid

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
