Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My penis turns a greyish color to almost a pale white at times even in the shower I have seen it turn colors. Should I be concerned about this? What is it that is causing this, I have no clue, I have done research into it and nothing seems to andwer my question, can you help me?
Greyish or whitish discoloration of the penis can occur due to smegma, fungal infection, inflammation or due to sexually transmitted infections. Tiny glands called sebaceous glands in the penis release smegma to lubricate these areas. It is a combination of fatty oils, shed skin cells, and moisture like sweat.
In men, smegma collects between the foreskin and the head of the penis which can give a greyish or a whitish color to the penis. This is completely normal. When excess smegma collects, it should be cleaned. If not smegma may accumulate causing infection / bad odor. Maintenance of penile hygiene will reduce your symptoms.
Abnormal penile discharge /itching may indicate infections. You may require a course of antibiotics in such cases.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
