What Causes Gross Hematuria?

I ve had micro hematuria for the last four months. Urologist ruled out bladder cancer and bladder dysfunction with cytoscopy. Narrowed it down to bleeding from the right kidney. Said some people have benign hematuria. I m now having gross hematuria with blood clots for the last three weeks. He didn t feel that I needed to be referred to a nephronologist. I m increasingly concerned about its and not sure way to do from here.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The urologist would have likely assessed the entire urinary tract looking for any abnormalities eg infection, stones, cancer, signs of inflammatory diseases.

This would been done with imaging such as cytoscopy mentioned, ultrasound or ct and blood/urine tests should have been done to assess kidney function.

If all of this has been done then you may not need to see nephrologist for assessment, if not however then you should consider this option.

If you cannot be referred by your doctor, you can check at your local hospital or use online resources such as healthgrades.com

I hope this helps
