What Causes Gum Infection And How Can It Be Treated ?
hi iv just discoverd a bump at the back of my mouth on my gum next to my my tooth and when i poked it really bad smelling puss came out its the same sort of smell my breth had when i had a throte infecion once im not sure what it is? im 20 and have had teeth out in the past and braces and this week i have been to the dentist she said i had a cavity but that was on a different tooth and iv only found this bump a second ago feels like an ulser but really smells

Thanks for asking the query,
After reading your clinical history i suspect that you have developed a gum boil in relation to a particular tooth, such lesion is caused by either physical or chemical trauma to the gum tissues or due to injury caused by hot food stuffs.
I would suggest you to visit the Dentist and get the checkup done, if it is associated with the tooth then the treatment include treatment of the infected tooth and it may require radiological evaluation.
If it is gum outgrowth it can be excised surgically.

The cause of occurence of bump filled with pus has to be evaluated clinically by a dentist.
A full mouth scaling along with drainage and curettage of abscess has to be done.
Deep caries with infected pulp has to be root canal treated.
Use soft bristled toothbrush as well as dental floss to clean your teeth.

its an abscess most probably...
abscess can be due gum infection (due to presence of plaque and calculus deep in the gums) or can be due to deep caries also...
so get the abscess drained and go for root planing and curettage...
and also get the cavity filled also... go for its RCT if required...
take proper course of antibiotics...

The bump at the back of your mouth could be due to periodontal pocket,an abscess that contains bacterias and pus in it.
Also due to presence of braces many a times it is difficult to maintain hygiene and results in decay.
Therefore in my view you must seek your dentist help in this regard and get the suitable treatment done.The earlier the better it is, in case of gum problems and tooth decay.

as per clinical presentation i would like to say that you are suffering from periodontal abscess with a sinus opening.and from this opening you are experiencing pus/purulent discharge.
as most periodontal conditions are caused by gram negative organisms i would suggest you to take cephalosporin group of drugs..use salt water gurgling ...never use hot pack over the site as it will increase the swelling ..
do visit your dentist to confirm the diagnosis and treat the underlying cause...

it may be infection in your gums, gingivitis. get a visit to the dentist, irrigate out the infection and follow his medication. brush twice daily and use listrine mouthwash after brushing. take care
