Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Gum Pain And Small Hole At The Site Of Tooth Being Removed?
I had all my back teeth taken out about 25 years ago and it's just been the gum there but every good few months the gum on the bottom left starts hurting not painful just sore then after a few days it goes but this week my gum has been hurting for 2-3 days and food is getting stuck on it. Today I looked in the mirror and noticed a small black hole the size of a pen nib. What do you think it could be please. I am so scared of the dentist I can just about sit on the chair and sometimes I even faint.
Thanks for your query. The symptom you mention in query is result of chronic infection of socket or indentation remain after extraction ,food debris and bacteria start accumulating at such sites and cause infection .
This infection sometimes spread to the bone and can cause osteomyelitis and can also spread to other structure like floor of the mouth. Some times infection is due to infection in tooth adjacent to adentulous site ,which needs root canal or extraction.
I would suggest you to consult dentist .Dentist may order X-ray to find out the exact cause and treat it .Doctor may prescribe antibiotics course or antiseptic mouthwash like lirterine or bitadine gargles.
for now do warm saline gargle several times a day , maintain oral hygiene ,try to eat from other side and rinse your mouth after every meal.
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
