What Causes Hacking Cough, slurred Speech And Emotional Imbalance?
I am 64, back in Dec. I had flu like symptoms with hacking cough that lasted for 3-4 months. I now have slurred speech that is getting worse, uncontrollable laughter and crying, but otherwise feel great am eating normal with plenty of exercise. I have had a chest ex ray , CT scan with dye, nose scope down throat, and endoscopy that showed nothing but normal on all tests. I m waiting for appt. with neurologist hopefully in Nov. but worried that is a long time to wait with speech becoming more difficult. Please help.
* The chronic cough can be of allergic bronchitis counterpart when CT chest and x-ray are normal.
* The second issue may be following
- alteration in the Broca or Wernicke area of the brain
- defects at arcuate fasciculus
- others
* Associated slurred speech and emotional imbalance has to be evaluated from neurologic point of view and an MRI may be a need of time ahead for the final diagnostic approach.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
