What Causes Hair Fall?

Hi doctor. I have had hairfall ever since I was 14 years old. In my family there are other family members with hairfall too but they are all men. Also, it was found that I have had high TSH levels and low T3 and T4 levels. Overall it seems I have many factors that lead to hairfall and this has been frustrating me ever since. My hair used to be lush, thick, long and straight. I have tried everything from taking in thyroxine tablets everyday, home made remedies, commercial products and salon treatments but nothing seems to stop the hairfall or at least slow it down to a minimum. However, I do eat a multivitamin tablet once a day which sort of reduces the hairfall. So I want to know what is actually wrong with my hair and what would be the best way possible to treat it.

Hello,

Hair fall is a very common problem and as you said you have high T3, T4 levels and there are different products you have tried which altogether is causing hair fall.

Hair growth and its health are dependent on a healthy diet as that's the best way hair gets nutrition. Make sure you include green leafy vegetables in your diet.

Avoid using chemical products on your hair and try to use a mild one. You can see a dermatologist regarding this, he will guide you with the best advice regarding the use of any medicine if needed.

As you mentioned, you are taking multivitamin tablets and I hope you are taking those with your doctor’s advice.

If not then you should take those tablets as per your doctor’s advice as the excess of anything is harmful so the adequate dose is important.

You can avoid using heat on your hair while drying it, use of straightener a lot can also damage your hair.

Sometimes due to dandruff also this can happen. So make sure you keep your hair clean and as much as healthy with the use of mild products.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
