What Causes Hair Loss On One Side Of The Head?

Hi after getting out of the shower tonight I noticed that on one side of my head I have a significant hair loss. It looks like somebody gave me bangs intermittently throughout that side of my hair. This past week I had bronchitis and was on antibiotics and cough cera up. I died my hair over three weeks ago and I’ve use this die plenty of times over the last six years with no problem. If there was a problem with the product it would make me think that I would have hair loss through Out my whole entire head not just one side

Hello,

You most likely have Alopecia Areata (AA). It is a patchy hair loss on the scalp (most common) or any hairy part of the body without scarring. Complete hair loss in the local area may take a few weeks.

This is an autoimmune disorder meaning the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the hair follicles. However, hair follicles do not get damaged permanently, therefore, after a few months hair will re-grow.

You seem to have a mild form of AA. You can get a prescription from your doctor for topical Corticosteroid (example as Synalar or Diprosone) which is applied 2 times a day.

You doctor may also consider injecting corticosteroids on the lesion, using immunosuppressant medicines or Minoxidil Topical.

Please note, not all lesions in AA need treatment (small, no cosmetic effect et cetera), because hair growth usually happens after a few months by its natural course.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Malik Amonov
