What Causes Hair Loss While On Vyvanse, Anafranil, Synthroid And Zoloft?

I just had a haircut today (I have always had short hair) and she noticed a significant increase in hair loss both on top of my head and above my right ear. I have thick curly hair so this is especially surprising. I had noticed a disturbing loss in the top front area a while ago, but didn t realize that it has spread so much. My hair has always been a source of pride and, at 61, it is now a lovely salt and pepper (mostly salt!) I have been taking medication (generic versions) for ADD (Vyvanse) (diagnosed as an adult only 5+ years ago) for the longest time (several years), OCD (Anafranil) newest (approx 4 months) and Depression (Zoloft) (approx 1 year), along with Synthroid (which I have been taking for 17 years. I had breast cancer (estrogen pos) 13 years ago, and ovaries removed 6 months prior, all successfully removed with no complications. I see that hair loss is listed as a side effect of psych related medications. Will I need to choose between my hair and a stable mental state? (THIS IS NOT AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE)

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is a condition called effluvium. It can happen on the initial days and settle by itself. No definite treatment is required. Zinc-containing multivitamins can help a bit.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
