What Causes Hairy Tongue Along With Constant Need For Gagging?

I have problem with brown hairy tongue which requires for to constantly clear my throat and often cough. I cannot scrape off but can pull up mucus-like membrane from my throat covered with the brown flecks which seems to stop it for a few days. It is disgusting and requires substantial gagging and sometimes vomiting. I am using Advair 2 times daily for asthma and occasional Pro-Air. Are these related, and what can I do for the tongue problem. This problem is new within the past few months and seemed to start after receiving antibiotics for a sinus infection. Thank you.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of hairy tongue along with constant need for gagging which could be due to incomplete hygiene, stress , hormonal changes ,vitamin deficiency ,food allergy and injury. Need not to worry. Usually it will go away by its own. I would suggest you to avoid hot and spicy food ,maintain oral hygiene , hydrogen peroxide gargles mix with equal amount of water. If condition persist after 5-7 days then consult dentist for proper evaluation and to rule out other cause like lie bump or squamous papilloma . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics .
