What Causes Hard Feeling In The Upper Abdomen While On Firmagon For Prostate Cancer?
Ok, my 84 year old father who is in shape like a good 60 year old, but has metastatic prostate cancer to the bone taking monthly Firmagon and Bone strengthener, is doing well with PSA less than 1, but upper abdomen is distended and hard and looks like a basketball is in there. He claims there is no pain, it is not tender and he has no symptoms associated with it other than it is bothersome. Lab tests are normal. Like I said he works out everyday and usually had a six pack, so why would this be?
The Firmagon is a well known hormone with GnRH antagonist activity used in treatment of prostate cancer for hormone axis mechanics. The common side effects of this injections are: - Dizziness - Abdomen pain, fullness - Weight changes
Kindly discuss the need of dose changes or molecule alteration keeping in mind the above mentioned side effects in your father`s case with treating urologist or oncologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
