Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Hard Knot And Pain On The Back Of Head?
I have had a hard knot on the right side of the back of my head/neck area for at least 4 months. I had brought it up to my physician and was told it was only a knotted muscle. It has since started being very tender, having dull pains and sharp shooting pains from the area to the top of my head. I also hurt very bad in my shoulders and neck in general. I feel as though it isn t a knotted muscle. Do you think it could be a lymph node or something else? Thank you so much.
Your symptoms are suggestive of a muscle spasm. Anyway, I would recommend performing a spinal cord X-ray study or CT scan, in order to be sure that this is just a muscle spasm. The sharp shooting pains are usually related to a pinched nerve (occipital nerve), which originates in this region.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
